White iPhone 4 releases tomorrow, finally (update: Phil Schiller explains the delay)

The rare albino iPhone 4 has been spotted numerous times in the wild, skulking through the trees in the magical United Kingdom, cavorting across the mysterious lands of Vietnam, and most recently standing in formation in Belgium. Now it's coming somewhere rather less exotic: the Apple Store. Apple has finally announced it will release the white iPhone 4 tomorrow around the world. Here in the US it'll come in both AT&T and Verizon flavors, warming the hearts and minds of those who like a little less pigment on their handsets. Other than a proximity sensor tweak nothing else has changed on the device, and so the pricing remains the same: $199 on contract for the 16GB model, $299 for 32GB. Sadly, though, your contract also remains the same, and we're pretty sure really wanting a new phone to match your earbuds isn't grounds for avoiding an ETF.

Update: All Things D's Ina Fried had the pleasure to sit down with Steve Jobs and Phil Schiller to learn the reason behind the white iPhone 4's delay. According to Schiller, it wasn't as simple as getting the right whiteness like we reported previously -- turns out this is more to do with adding extra UV protection to keep the internal components behaving normally. Looking on the bright side, Jobs implied that this lesson allowed them to bring out the white iPad 2.

Separately, some time ago our sources added that the white iPhone 4's spring launch window was set in stone back in September (and consequently announced in October), as Apple foresaw the need to delay the iPhone 5 to free up resources for the OS X Lion team and the new maps team ahead of WWDC in June. All will be revealed in good time.

Official: the white iPhone 4 launches tomorrow in 28 countries

Apple has finally confirmed the launch date of the white iPhone 4 – tomorrow, 28th April. The white iPhone 4 (GSM and CDMA) will hit the shelves in 28 countries on the same price as its black sibling.

The wait is over. It seems Apple has finally managed to push the white thing into manufacturing and it will become available tomorrow – 28 April – in 28 countries - Austria, Australia, Belgium, Canada, China, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Macau, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Switzerland, Sweden, Taiwan, Thailand, the UK and the US. More countries will follow later this year.

There is no change in the pricing – the white iPhone 4 will cost the same as the black one – both on contract and SIM-free (where available).

Sony to manufacture iPhone 5 camera, 8MP all but certain

There has been a lot of speculation about the iPhone 5 but the camera department has rarely been mentioned. Well now we know its manufacturer and resolution.

Previously there was just those vague rumors that Apple is considering changing their current OmniVision-produced camera with a Sony one.

Well now we have a confirmation that the Cupertino-based company has gone ahead with the move from no other, but the Sony CEO. In an interview with the Wall Street Journal Sir Howard Stringer let slip that his company is supplying camera modules to Apple. And since none of the existing Apple products use Sony modules it's only logical to assume that those units are set for the iPhone 5 production.

Which leads us to the conclusion that the Apple iPhone 5 will pack one of those sweet 8 megapixel Exmor R backlit sensors. The other Sony module that's meant for cameraphone usage is 16.4MP unit, but it seems unlikely that Apple will use it as it is significantly larger and that would make the iPhone 5 way thicker than its predecessor.

Sony creates those image sensor technology in the Sendai factory in Japan, which is one of the affected factories by the earthquakes and tsunamis, which hit Japan this year. It's yet unclear if that will affect the iPhone 5 availability, though.

So, larger screen, an 8 megapixel camera and, possibly, NFC for the next iPhone then. It's starting to look as a pretty decent upgrade, right?

Yosion's second-gen Apple Peel 520 arriving on March 28th, ready to cellularize your iPod touch

Remember the second-gen Apple Peel 520 we saw back in January? Yep, Yosion has now confirmed that this familiar-looking adapter will be available in China on March 28th, which happens to be this coming Monday. Like its predecessor, this new sleeve lets you send texts and make regular phone calls on a jailbroken iPod touch (including the latest FaceTime-loving model), but now Yosion's also thrown in GPRS data connectivity along with some extra battery juice, all for the price of just ¥520 ($79) for pre-orderers and possibly around ¥598 ($90) when it's out. Frankly, this isn't a bad value proposition for those already clinging onto an iPod touch -- just make sure El Jobs doesn't catch you holding this Peel.

Apple iPad 2 India Launch Announcement Soon?

The iPad 2 has already been launched in the US, and will be launched in several other countries on March 25, but India doesn t figure in that list yet. Apple has not yet confirmed any India date, but a senior manager at a leading Apple partner has revealed on informal enquiries, that the company is working on a launch date to be announced in just two weeks. This was discussed during the Apple partners meeting held in New Delhi last Wednesday. The source added, "iPad 2 launch figured prominently at the meeting and most partners were urging Apple's management to intimate them about the launch in advance so that they draw up sales strategies."

Apple partners are said to have expressed unhappiness about how Apple launched the original iPad in India, 10 long months after its US launch. The India launch of the iPad 2 seems even more feasible now because Apple has been promoting the iPad 2 on their Indian website, which they never did for the original iPad. So let's keep our fingers crossed and hope that iPad 2 would not be atrociously priced. Would you buy the iPad 2 if it is launched in India?
