Ofcom: 'UK Lumia ads broke Broadcasting Code'

Nokia's burnt at least one bridge in the UK after Channel 5 (or five, or 5, or channel five -- whatever its called) received a slap on the wrist from Ofcom: the motherland's equivalent of the FCC. The channel inserted Lumia branding into its second-long station-ident clips (one of the longer blips is pictured above), too short to include a clear notification of the sponsorship relationship -- in contravention of rule 9.19 of the Broadcasting code. The channel objected on the grounds that it would have been impossible to properly insert a fair warning into the blips, but the regulator was customarily dry:
"If it is too brief for text or audio to convey the necessary sponsorship relationship, the item should not be used as sponsorship vehicle."
As the campaign has ended, only the channel will bear the brunt of the punishment, but it might make other broadcasters wary of too deep an involvement with the phone maker. After the break we've got a copy of the judgment and you'll be able to read the whole thing for yourself at the source link.
